Teacher conflicts and popular-democratic administrations: study of the immediate history of the union organization of education workers in Belo Horizonte (1993-2001)
Abstract
The guiding thread of the article is the study of the union organization of the teaching workers of the municipal public school of Belo Horizonte (MG), city that had the Workers Party (PT) as government or in the municipal administration support base during the years of 1993 to 2012. More specifically, we sought to analyze and interpret what happened in the initial period of these administrations, which enjoyed a great deal of prestige among education workers, but were confronted, between 1993 and 2001, with the occurrence of numerous strikes organized by the municipal sub-union of the Union. Single of Education Workers (Sind-UTE-MG), and the longest of these strikes occurred between August and September 2001 and marked the political breakdown of education workers from the municipality with the PT government. The conflict, to a certain extent, exposed and anticipated trends that would mark national teaching unionism in the period of federal governments led by the PT, between 2003 and 2016.
