One Hundred Years of the Third International (1919 – 1943)
Abstract
The Communist International, or Third International, was designed to replace the Second International (Social Democrat). Since its founding, the III International has sought to found in every country of the world a nucleus of Bolshevik-comprehended socialist militants, that is, militants capable of adopting the strategy produced by the Russian labor movement as a roadmap for achieving political power and materializing the dreamed revolution, now on a world scale. Leninism, the current of thought that led to the victory of the October Revolution, is based on two observations from the epoch of imperialism: (a) the increasing uneven development between different countries; (b) the intensification by capital of the exploitation of colonial and dependent countries. In this article, we will seek to treat aspects of the Communist International’s role in shaping a new type of revolutionary movement around the world.
