Caldeira and his reading of Caio Prado Júnior: an out-of-place critique
Abstract
Caldeira opens his book with an invitation to the reader to accompany him on a journey of exploration to colonial Brazil in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. His intention is to show and prove that the internal market played a decisive role in the development of the colonial economy; much more than the export sector. At the end of the trip, which takes just over ten pages, filled with statistical data, he offers his guests two alternatives for reading the rest of his book.
