Abstract

Some parallels are drawn between the concept of culture in the young Gramsci and the later development of the concept of common sense at Prison Notebooks, especially at the beginning of its elaboration, i.e., at the first notebook. It’s been identified at the problem of “unitary consciousness” inside the article “Socialism and culture”, published in 1916, a dialectical treatment of politics and culture, which, in its deployment, it’s supposed so, will make Gramsci rethink the traditional place that popular thought and culture have in politics, which in turn will mean the growing theorizing of the concept of common sense.
