Abstract
What this book does is revive in all its entirety a city that already tended to be, in the sixteenth century, the geographic capital of Brazil, as Jaime Cortesão called it. Thus, the wanderings of its people, their customs, their attitudes and their faith, join those basic economic impulses that took the people of São Paulo very far, devastating the unknown hinterland in the hunt for bugs and precious stones.
