Abstract

“It is not just another book about Caio Prado jr. The reader will find here a successful intellectual biography of an author who adamantly refused to separate his life from his work. Following the model of the classic books by Franz Mehring and Gustav Mayer – biographers of Marx and Engels, respectively –, Lincoln Secco reconstitutes Caio Prado's personal life, communist militancy and political trajectory, as well as the genesis, cultural insertion and reception of his main texts and the set of his books. The profile that emerges is not that of an outdated and dated interpreter of Brazil, nor that of a precursor of the scientific rigor of specialized monographs of university culture, but the unique figure of a Brazilian Marxist, with his heterodoxy and his effort to oxygenate the theory and practice of a Pcb fossilized by lieutenant positivism. the question that guides the investigation is the originality of Caio Prado's marxism.

But the answers are not commonplace. Secco is not content with reaffirming his pioneering spirit in presenting a Marxist image of the country. seeks to show and determine concretely how he apprehends Marx's method and applies it in the consideration of capitalist relations”.
