Abstract

You must agree with me that the challenging and highly topical theme that was proposed to me in this conference is practically impossible to be properly dealt with in 40 minutes. I will limit myself, therefore, to focusing on some aspects and even then with excerpts that I hope are not reductive. Contrary to the commonplace that considers religion to be an undiscussable subject, an option of an intimate nature and of a strictly personal nature, it plays a significant role in the formation of common sense (GRAMSCI, Q 11, §13, pp.1396-7) and has played an undeniable role in the history of mankind and in the organization of society. For this reason, even though it is a complex and controversial area, this reality cannot be neglected or underestimated. All the more so now, when religion re-emerges in a world convulsed by profound crises, eroded by discredit in political institutions and in search, as never before, of support in comfortable truths and a community of belonging.
